‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the jail,
Not a creature was stirring — no one could post bail.
The phones were all ringing, the messages clear:
“Can you get my son out? He’s been stuck since last year!”
The DUI checkpoints were marked with great care,
In hopes that the drivers would not end up there.
With court closed till Tuesday, and judges asleep,
Those stuck in the system had no time to weep.
But I in my office, with coffee in hand,
Reviewed every file, each charge and remand.
From theft to disorderly, and yes — unpaid fines,
‘Twas a holiday medley of legal land mines.
When out on the phone line arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
“A client needs help!” — my assistant declared,
“Arrested for fighting while slightly impaired.”
So I dashed to the lockup, in snow and in sleet,
To defend the accused and plead for release.
For justice, I fight — even Christmas Eve night,
Because liberty matters, and rights must stay right.
So if trouble finds you, in cuffs or in strife,
Call Blanford Law — we’ll help change your life.
And I heard myself say as I drove out of sight:
“Merry Christmas to all — and to all a fair fight!”
