On Saturday at approximately 3:05 p.m., an SUV driven by 41-year-old Amy Long of Moses Lake veered off Interstate 82 near Ellensburg, struck an embankment, and rolled. Both Amy Long and her passenger—44-year-old Troy Long—were not wearing seatbelts and sustained injuries as a result of the crash. According to the Washington State Patrol, there is evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role, and charges are pending against Amy Long. The crash remains under active investigation by state troopers.

Under Washington State law, all vehicle occupants are required to wear seatbelts. Failing to do so not only increases the risk of serious injury but can also contribute to legal liability when accidents occur. This incident highlights the importance of seatbelt use, especially in rollover crashes, which are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents.

The involvement of drugs or alcohol may result in serious legal consequences. Washington law imposes strict penalties for impaired driving, and if impairment leads to injury, the driver may face charges such as vehicular assault or DUI. Prosecutors and law enforcement take these cases seriously, particularly when passengers are harmed.

As the investigation continues, the Washington State Patrol will collect evidence including toxicology results, crash scene analysis, and witness statements. Once complete, formal charges may follow, depending on the findings.

The Washington State Patrol maintains collision records, which can be accessed for insurance claims, legal reviews, or public awareness. To learn more about crash data and reporting in Washington, visit the Washington State Patrol.
