Blanford Law Can Help If You’ve Been Injured Due to Negligence
ELLENSBURG, WA — April 7, 2025
In the early morning hours of April 7, a high-speed Ellensburg crash involving a stolen vehicle ended in a fiery wreck and multiple teen car accident arrests, sending one teenage passenger to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office reports that a deputy first observed the vehicle driving without headlights on East University Way. When the deputy attempted a stop, the driver fled. Moments later, the car collided with a traffic light pole at the intersection of University Way and Chestnut Street. The impact caused the vehicle to burst into flames.
A 15-year-old girl, a passenger in the car, was pulled from the wreck by responding officers and treated at the scene for critical injuries. She was transported to a local hospital and remains in serious condition.
Officers from the Ellensburg Police Department used drone technology with thermal imaging to locate two fleeing suspects. A 15-year-old male was arrested near the scene, while the teen driver, a 16-year-old male, was located and apprehended later at an Ellensburg residence.
Authorities confirmed the car had been reported stolen shortly before the crash. The teen driver now faces felony charges including:
- Vehicular Assault
- Hit and Run (Injury)
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Driving Without a Valid License
Another 15-year-old male suspect was also arrested and booked into the Yakima Juvenile Corrections Facility on charges related to vehicle theft and minor in possession of alcohol.
The Ellensburg crash remains under investigation by the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office and the Ellensburg Police Department, with more charges possible as evidence and toxicology results are reviewed.
