EASTON, Wash. – A devastating accident on Interstate 90 near Easton has claimed the life of 35-year-old Andrei Cibotari of Sandpoint, Idaho, as he was chaining up his truck in the designated chain-up area. This heartbreaking incident underscores the severe consequences of negligence on the road and the need for accountability in such tragedies.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:42 PM near milepost 72, just outside Easton city limits. According to the Washington State Patrol, a 2023 Tesla Model Y, driven by 34-year-old Anirudh Walia of Seattle, veered off the roadway, striking Cibotari while he was on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes. Investigators determined that the Tesla was traveling too fast for the road conditions, resulting in the fatal collision.
Cibotari was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and three passengers, all from Seattle and aged between 31 and 35, were unharmed and reported to have been wearing seatbelts at the time. The vehicle sustained significant damage and was removed by Easton Towing. Authorities continue to investigate the accident, and pending charges are being considered.
