Seattle, December 1, 2023 – Eastbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass experienced temporary closure this Friday morning due to severe weather conditions. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. at milepost 34, necessitating over two-dozen semi-trucks to pull over and chain up their tires amidst heavy snowfall.
The Washington State Department of Transportation reported “multiple collisions” contributing to the closure. There was no immediate estimation for reopening the highway initially. However, by 9 a.m., both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-90 had reopened to traffic.
As a safety measure, chains were mandated for vehicles traveling eastbound. In contrast, westbound drivers were required to have traction tires. This incident underscores the importance of preparedness and caution during severe weather conditions, especially in areas prone to heavy snowfall.
