NORTH BEND – After a 16-year hiatus, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) has officially reestablished its detachment in North Bend, focusing on enhancing traffic safety and law enforcement along Snoqualmie Pass. The North Bend detachment was closed in 2007, with the Bellevue office handling coverage for the area. As of November 2023, a dedicated team of WSP troopers will once again be stationed in the North Bend/Snoqualmie Pass region.
Located at the Fire Training Academy off exit 38 on I-90, the new detachment is strategically positioned to provide a much-needed law enforcement presence on this critical transportation route. With the winter season approaching, Snoqualmie Pass is expected to see heavy traffic, and WSP’s bolstered presence will play a vital role in ensuring public safety.
The newly reestablished detachment will be staffed by eight troopers and one sergeant, with six troopers expected to be in place before the winter of 2024. Captain Ron Mead, commander of Field Operations for King County, emphasized the importance of this move. “The reestablishment of the North Bend Detachment provides the commuters over Snoqualmie Pass and the residents of the Snoqualmie Valley the dedicated WSP presence they deserve, and which has been lacking along this important corridor for far too long,” said Mead.
The reopening of the North Bend detachment is a crucial step in improving traffic safety and reducing response times for incidents on I-90, particularly during the winter months when road conditions can become dangerous. This effort by the Washington State Patrol is expected to enhance law enforcement coverage and offer faster assistance to commuters and residents in the area.
To mark the occasion, the WSP will host an open house at the North Bend detachment on October 11, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. The public is invited to meet the newly assigned troopers and tour the facility.
As Snoqualmie Pass remains a key transportation route for both local residents and interstate travelers, the return of the WSP detachment in North Bend is a welcome development that will contribute to the overall safety and security of the region.
