A fatal collision on Interstate 90 west of Easton claimed the life of one passenger and seriously injured another occupant Saturday afternoon. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, which occurred in Kittitas County.

What Happened in the I-90 Crash West of Easton?
Preliminary information released by the Washington State Patrol indicates that both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 when one vehicle struck another. After the collision, the striking vehicle left the roadway and rolled.
The driver of the vehicle that left the roadway was identified as 65-year-old Rodger A. Grimes of Palm Bay, Florida. Troopers reported that he sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Overlake Medical Center for treatment.
A passenger riding in the same vehicle later died at the hospital. Authorities are withholding the passenger’s identity until next of kin have been notified.
According to the State Patrol, charges against the driver are listed as pending, and the investigation remains ongoing. No determination of fault has been announced.
Other Occupants Escaped Injury
The second vehicle involved in the collision was occupied by 50-year-old Marius Pop of Kirkland along with three passengers, ages 45, 16, and 12.
The Washington State Patrol reported that none of the occupants of the second vehicle were injured. All four individuals were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
Investigators also stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
Washington State Patrol Continues Investigation
Fatal crashes require thorough investigations to determine exactly how and why a collision occurred. Troopers will typically examine:

- Vehicle damage and mechanical conditions
